Jack H. Gardner Collection
Jack H. Gardner enlisted in the Army Air Corps in January 1940 at Fort McDowell, California. He graduated an aircraft armament course in June 1941 at Lowry Field, near Denver, Colorado. He then completed Basic Flight training in Class 42-G at the Brady Aviation School, Curtis Field, near Brady, Texas in June 1942.
Jack was promoted to Staff Sergeant Pilot in August 1942, after training at the Lubbock Army Flying School in Lubbock, Texas. By December 1942 he was made Flight Officer at the Long Beach Army Air Field, Long Beach, California. He made Second Lieutenant at the same station in May 1943. He was a pilot with the Ferrying Division, Air Transport Command from August 1942 until December 1944.
